PWR Racings first FIA WTCR season is coming to an end. The penultimate race weekend of the season was just finished at legendary Circuito da Guia in Macau. PWR Racing, Mikel Azcona and guest driver Robert Dahlgren entered the weekend with moderate expectations, considering the very limited experience within the team of this very special track. A 6120 meter long street circuit with both extremely technical sections and several very long straights.

PWR Racing premiere in Macau

Newcomer Robert Dahlgren and Mikel Azcona started the weekend by qualifying P14 and P10 for the first race on saturday, a good result considering the circumstances. Come qualifying for sundays two races, hopes were to better the first session. However luck wasn’t on our side and Azcona ended P23 while Dahlgren, who was hit by another driver on his fast lap, managed P21.

Saturdays race had a mixed outcome as Mikel fell back from P10 at the start to P19 across the finish line. Dahlgren however made up one position, finishing P13 and scoring his first FIA WTCR points and PWR Racings first points in Macau.

– I’m very grateful for the opportunity to race at this track with PWR Racing and CUPRA. I’m convinced we had the speed for top ten race positions, but we didn’t get the results to match our speed. That’s how it goes sometimes, we just have to keep developing and learn from this experience, said Robert Dahlgren.

New experiences at a legendary street circuit

Sundays two races was bound to be difficult with both drivers starting further down the field. Azcona drove a great race to start the day and managed to climb from P23 to P15, scoring his first point at Circuito da Guia. Dahlgren made up one position to finish P20. The third and last race of the weekend was flagged off with Azcona P20 and Dahlgren P24.

– This was a tough weekend results wise, but I’m happy with the gained experience both for myself and the team. This is our first season in the FIA WTCR championship and it’s tough to compete against the more experienced teams and drivers, especially at this kind of track. I look forward to finish off the season on a high at the last race in Malaysia, said Mikel Azcona.

The 2019 FIA WTCR season finale is held at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia from the 13:th to the 15:th of December.
