The third round of FIA WTCR played out on the Slovakia Ring. PWR Racing entered the weekend with two consecutive podiums in round one and two. High spirit and motivation in the team to keep producing great results. Despite no podium finish this time around, the team managed to defend fourth place in the team championship.

Daniel Haglöf set the standard early on by setting the fourth fastest time in FP1 with his CUPRA TCR. He brought the pace in to qualifying and finished P4 in both sessions, making it all the way to Q3 for the first time.

– Quali was really good and the feeling I had in the car was great. The team had done an amazing job, said Daniel Haglöf.

Mikel had a harder time in qualifying and ended P14 and P13 in the sessions, thus starting P14 in the first race and P13 in the two finishing races.

– Quali was not what I wished for, a drying track made for tricky conditions. The car felt good but it didn’t quite work out, said Mikel Azcona.

Come sundays races Haglöf were to start P4, P7 and P4. However, early contact in race one saw his pace drop and make him fall back from P5 to P19. Race two started with an early puncture and no chance for points. Race three continued on the same trend with a no points finish.

– My race results wasn’t what we wanted. We clearly had pace for more and that’s what we will bring to the next one. I’m eager to get back in the car and keep fighting for points with my team, says Daniel Haglöf.

Mikels races went the opposite direction when he managed to climb from P14 to P9 in the first race. He then followed up with another strong charge in his CUPRA TCR from P13 to P7. As if that wasn’t enough he fought his way from P13 to P5 in the last race.

– To climb 19 places in three races was a lot more than I could have hoped for. Huge thanks to the team for giving me a great race car today, our pace was clearly really strong, says Mikel Azcona.
