Daniel Haglöf scored his maiden and the teams second FIA WTCR presented by Oscaro podium in the second heat at Hungaroring. Team mate Mikel Azcona wasn’t far behind in his CUPRA TCR, slotting in on P4. A strong effort, even more so considering it is PWR Racing’s second WTCR race weekend, ever.

– I’m over the moon, both for myself, the team and CUPRA Racing. We were on the pace already in the Marrakech premiere, but unfortunate issues held me back a bit. That makes it even more sweet to put it on the podium this weekend. It’s a mega effort from everyone involved in our WTCR project, I’m super proud and thankful to everyone says Daniel Haglöf, WTCR driver and PWR Racing CEO.

Another strong WTCR round

The weekend got off to a moderate start on friday when Daniel Haglöf qualified P11 and Mikel Azcona P16 in the first qualifying. Those positions were largely unchanged during the race and Daniel Haglöf scored the first points of the weekend.

Saturday qualifying showed the team had done its over night-lessons. Q2 for both cars with Azcona P6 and Haglöf P9. The reverse grid rules meant a P2 starting position for Haglöf for race two. Wet and drying conditions at the Hungaroring made for an intense start to the race with lots of action and overtaking. Haglöf went on to claim an early lead but fell back to P3 as the race settled. Both Haglöf and Azcona had no troubles keeping up with the lead group and scored a P3/P4 finish for the team.

Fourth in the team championship

PWR Racing are currently running fourth in the team championship after two strong opening rounds.

– First off, congratulations to Haglöf for his podium finish! It’s another strong weekend for us in the WTCR. I’m super happy with qualifying P6 and ending P4 in the main race, even though a podium would have been nice. I’m feeling super positive about our progress and can’t wait to go to Slovakia Ring for the next round, says Mikel Azcona, WTCR driver for PWR Racing.

The finishing race of the weekend saw Mikel Azcona climb from P6 on the grid to P4 across the finish line. Haglöf was on to a strong race, comfortably in the top ten when he suffered a front right puncture. Sending him to the back of the field. Despite a few downs, PWR Racing are looking back at another strong weekend in the WTCR championship and are now focusing on the premiere round in TCR Scandinavia next weekend, before heading to Slovakia Ring on the 10-12:th of May.
